Admiral Yamamoto's bunker HQ in Rabaul

PA243234 Yamamoto's bunker.2

Japan's Admiral Yamamoto was arguably the leading seafaring officer of any nation in World War II. Forced into a war he personally did not want with desperately slim resources at his command, he almost pulled it off for his political masters, in the process rewriting the book on naval warfare with his use of carrier-born airpower. Rabaul was his advance fortress in the South Pacific. This was the Japanese supreme command bunker in Rabaul. PA243234
