The day's focus was lunch - islands food cooked in the traditional "mumu" style

The focal event for the Peace Boat visitors' day in the Duke of York Islands was a traditional "mumu" feast. Mumu is food wrapped in leaves and slow cooked in hot stones. In this case, it included kaukau (sweet potato), singapo (dryland taro), taro, tapiok (cassava), kumu (greens), and chicken, all "greased" with coconut cream. Fish barbecued over an open fire was a favorite. There were kulaus (young coconuts) to drink plus lots of local fresh fruit - including pineapples, pawpaw (papaya), mangoes, and bananas. P1110686
